It's only the middle of January....

Well, we are coming to the end of January already.
My goal is to run 1000 miles in 2015, which is a lot of miles. 20 miles a week on average.
I decided to do this to try to raise $1000 for a wonderful charity close by to me named Mosiac http://www.mosaicinfo.org/
The charity helps people with intellectual disabilities.
(Please let me know if you donate to this charity, so I can keep a track of the amount of $$$ raised!!!)
So, by now I should have ran about 60 miles. The last time I wrote a bog post, I had ran 20 miles, which was on target after 2 weeks. So off to a good start.
In the past 2 weeks since then, I have recorded 25 miles, which totals 45 miles. I should be around the 60 mark, but I'm a little behind. I expected it to happen at some point, but I didn't think it would be so soon!
So for up until now I have been taking pictures of my miles ran and positing them on the blog. This, it seems, can get very messy very quickly if you are not organized! I had to sit and figure out which pictures on my camera were old and which were new. I don't think this method will work so well, so I've decided you are going to have to trust me to post the right amount of miles. And I will. Cheating is not in my nature! So for the past two weeks I have photos of a total of 25 miles. (which I am not posting for the reasons just explained, and also because they aren't so fun to look at and I don't think anyone will really look at them anyway!). I actually think I ran a few more than that, but I either didn't take a picture, or it disappeared. (See how taking pictures can become complicated??!) Anyway. I have pics of a total of 25 miles, so that's what I will go with.
So yes, I have to play catch up. I think I may need to create some sort of battle plan so I can fit them all in. I know some long runs are an order.
There are so many quotes which inspire me, and today, I think this one is appropriate.
Ok, so I have some work to do!! Ok, I'll be back in a couple of weeks!! :)
Keep running!! :)

Starting Off!

So week 1 (and  bit..) is complete! New year, new start and new goals.
I'm going to upload my mileage pictures to keep a record of my mileage online. All these little pictures makes 20 miles so far. I know they are kind of hard to read, but the mileage is at the top near to the left. I'm rounding down so that I don't include my warm up and cool down, which is walking.  You will be seeing A LOT of these over the year as I try to reach 1000 miles in a year! I think it's possible.
I'll have to do lots of longer runs too. I haven't done much of this recently as I try to do longer runs outside and it is winter and freezing! I know it's not as bad as other parts of the US, but I'm a wimp and prefer to run in milder conditions. Most of my treadmill running is before/after a group fitness class, so it's generally only a few miles. But at least it's something - an they are helping me reach my goal! As the weather warms up (hopefully soon!) I'll try for some more outdoor runs.
I've also been taking it a bit easier since my marathon, to give my legs and feet a bit of a break before adding up the mileage and speed again! I think soon I'll start to add in some intervals and hills, which I have not done in a while.
I know treadmill running isn't the most exciting thing in the world -which is one of the reasons I love group fitness classes so much!  - but I can't complain too much as it keeps me fit, active, and helps me reach my goals! Whats more, I live in a pretty urbanized area, and running outside means dodging cars and navigating main roads, which is definitely not what I want to do when running.
We do what we have to do to stay healthy, and if that means treadmills and the like, well that's what it has to be.

So just a reminder as to why I set myself the crazy goal of running 1000 miles in a year -  to try to raise $$$ for http://www.mosaicinfo.org/location/mosaic-dallas
Hopefully $1000!!! Please let me know if you donate, so I can keep track!

Stay Warm and Healthy!! :)

Running for a Cause!

My first post on my new little blog:)

Welcome 2015! I'm setting myself a new goal this year related to running (or jogging!). I've decided to challenge myself just a little more!

One thousand miles in one year. It sounds pretty crazy, but I think I can do it! It is about 20 miles a week :D
Last year when I started logging my miles for my marathon, (my first marathon, which I finished in 4:50 in the rain!) I realized how quickly the miles add up, so this year I thought about stepping up the challenge to 1000 miles in one year! A nice round number:)
No walking included, just running (or jogging!). Not even the walking warm up or cool down. And to keep a track of the miles, I will take a picture of the mileage on my watch or the treadmill.
To keep me motivated, I've decided to 'run for a cause' -  for a great charity Mosaic.

I have volunteered here and so I know that it is a great charity which does a lot of great work:)

My goal is to raise $1000 in the year (a dollar a mile!) which definitely will make the miles worthwhile!
Here is a quick link to the donation page.

Please let me know (in person, text, or message) how much you donated so I can keep a track! And I will of course be adding updates on my total milage! I'm excited to 'run for a cause'! (I chose not to go through a website like 'justgiving' or 'gofundme' as I wanted all the sponsor money to go directly to the charity).
Thank you for your support!!!
